Facial blushing may occur with or without facial hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis (pronounced "hyper-hydrosis") is a syndrome characterized by excessive sweating. Blushing and sweating can be especially challenging and embarrassing because the symptoms are so visible. They are typically perpetuated and worsened by performance anxiety and social pressure, so that fear of blushing and fear of sweating morph into phobias.

One medical option for facial hyperhidrosis is surgery called Sympathectomy, for which the main indication is palm sweating. Evidence is mounting that more and more patients who underwent sympathectomy for either facial blushing or facial hyperhidrosis are not happy with the end results.

Diane was a successful mortgage broker, age 40, who considered going for an operation to sever her nerves becuase of her blushing condition. In her words, “Thank God I didn’t.” Many people who contact me at one time in their lives have considered this. Obviously, this is extreme desperation, characterized by extreme levels of embarrassment, humiliation, and shame. I have known individuals who have gone for this procedure and end up worse - their internal sensations have become imbalanced.

Listen to Diane who learned to manage her blushing syndrome and overcome anxiety, embarrassment, and low self-esteem.

Listen to Jim, whose life is now "110% better" having overcome blushing and his obsession with it.

Hear Carol, whose blushing - and the ensuing fear that blushing indicated weakness and imperfection - had been wrecking her professional life.

Follow Karen, who has successfully broken the endless loop of blushing and social anxiousness.

This problem can be surmounted if you are motivated for change! Blushing and sweating - and the very fear of blushing and sweating - can be resolved when you learn to control the physiology of performance and understand autonomic hypersensitivity, concurrent with emotional re-structuring.
